Our Deaconess

Deaconess Faith Swenson was born in 1988 and raised as a pastor’s kid in the ELCA and later, the LCMS. She grew up mostly in North Dakota and Minnesota, living in parsonages with her family.

Swenson graduated from Annandale (Minnesota) High School in 2007. She went on to Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota where she graduated in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts in Music (with an emphasis on the organ). The fall of 2011 she started deaconess training at Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana.  She served as deaconess intern 2013-2014 at Shepherd of the City Lutheran Church and Bethesda Lutheran Communities in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Swenson was called to St. John Lutheran Church in Hillsboro, North Dakota and was commissioned and installed on August 17, 2014. She served there, along with Trinity Lutheran, Hope, ND and Immanuel Lutheran in Grand Forks, ND until relocating with her husband to Fairbank, IA in 2018. Swenson was called to serve College Hill Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls, IA and was installed there on July 5, 2020. On Sundays, Swenson can be found playing organ at St. John’s Lutheran in Fairbank, IA.

Swenson met her husband, Rev. Jacob Swenson, at seminary while he was studying to be a pastor and they got married on June 1, 2013. They are the parents of Gideon and two children awaiting the resurrection, Samuel and Talitha.
